Investigators have learned that at approximately 3:50 A.M., deputies responded to a call of a person shooting a firearm in the street.
Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the suspect, who was standing in the street holding a handgun in one hand and a bottle of alcohol in the other.
The suspect appeared agitated and yelled at the deputies, challenging them to kill him. The deputies attempted to talk to the suspect and asked him to drop the handgun.
The suspect suddenly fired his handgun at the deputies, striking a Sheriff's Department radio car.
The deputies returned fire at the suspect, striking him several times.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition and expected to survive.
