Barricaded Suspect with Machete & Rifle in Palmdale, LASD SEB SWAT Lands in Copter -- Ends Peacefully From Bail Bondsman In Palmdale

On Sunday at noon, Palmdale Sheriff's Station Deputies responded to the 37500 block of 37th Street East, Palmdale, in regards to a suspect (Nemecio Magallanes, male, Hispanic, 41-years-of age) reporting that there were three people with guns attempting to kill him. After deputies arrived on scene, the suspect refused to exit the location and kept hanging up the phone on deputies when they tried to talk to him. A second person from inside the location (victim and uncle of the suspect) callled the sheriff's station, stating the suspect was holding him against his will inside the bedroom. He added that the suspect was hallucinating and threatened him with a machete. Deputies contained (surrounded) the location and attempted to talk the suspect into surrendering aand coming out with his hands up. One of the deputies could see the suspect through a window walking around inside with a rifle. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) deputies (SWAT Team) were notified. While SWAT deputies were en-route, the suspect released the victim, who then stepped outside. The victim was uninjured. As Special Enforcement Bureau deputies arrived via Air Rescue 5 helicopter at a nearby field, the suspect walked out of the location while holding the machete. He cooperated with the deputies commands to drop the machets and was taken into custody. Suspect Magallanes was booked at Palmdale Sheriff's Station for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and False Imprisonment. His bail is set at $50,000. His next court date is on July 17, 2012 at Antelope Valley Municipal Court. A search warrant was issued for the location and deputies recovered a semi-automatic rifle, along with a large number of bullets.

Man Arrested for Building a House in the Park From Bail Bondsman In Los Angeles

Monday morning, July 16, 2012, Sheriff's Parks Bureau deputies were patrolling in the Tujunga Ponds Wildlife Sanctuary (210 Freeway/Wentworth Street, Sunland) when they discovered three men in a small crude structure in a remote area of the Park. The Tujunga Ponds Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the area patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Parks Bureau. It is illegal to be in a Los Angeles County Park after dark, let alone to build a structure and reside there. The structure had four bunk beds built into the walls, tables, shelves and even fire extinguishers on the walls. They also had a rock patio in front of the building with a barbeque and tables. Suspect Robert Downs, a 51 year old man, said that he has been living in the Tujunga Ponds Sanctuary for over a year. He said that the construction of the somewhat concealed small shed began gradually approximately eight months ago using materials he procured from a are home repair store. He camouflaged the entire structure down to the tire of the wheelbarrow by cutting down trees and using camouflage tarp and paint to keep from being detected by law enforcement. During their investigation, the deputies found eight Marijuana plants growing near the structure. Suspect Downs was arrested for Cultivation of Marijuana and for Removing Plants and Trees from a County Park. He was booked at the Inmate Reception Center of the Los Angeles County jail and is being held in lieu of $30,000.00 bail. Two other men, a 30 year old and a 45 year old, both residents of Sun Valley, were issued citations for Los Angeles County Code violations and released. The structure will be removed from the park during the next two weeks by personnel from the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works. $400K Real Estate Fraud Suspect in Custody From Bail Bondsman In Torrance

    On June 2008 and August 2010, Licensed Real Estate Agent, 47-year old Suspect Jong Hwan Huh (Also Known As David Huh) from the city of Torrance, allegedly defrauded seven clients out of $404,000.00 by way of various different schemes. At the time, Huh was employed by Masters Realty Group in Los Angeles. The victims were located in Lomita, Torrance, Gardena and the Los Angeles area. Although there were variations in the schemes, they all involved obtaining money from the victims for real estate purchases or leases, and misappropriation of money. The investigation also revealed that Huh frequented local casinos and used the victims’ money to gamble. On Friday, April 27, 2012, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed 17 felony counts against Huh. The charges included Grand Theft, Forgery, Issuing Bad Checks and Enhancements for Aggravated White Collar Crime. A warrant was issued for Huh’s arrest. On Thursday, July 5, 2012, deputies from the Lomita Sheriff’s Station arrested Suspect Huh as he was leaving the South End Racquet and Health Club in Torrance. Huh was booked into the Lomita Sheriff’s Station jail with a bail of $404,000. He was arraigned on Monday, July 9, 2012 in Los Angeles Superior Court, case # BA396883. His next court date is scheduled for August 1, 2012.

Palmdale Deputies thwarted a suicide attempt after chasing a 60 year old woman throughout the city From Bail Bondsman In Palmdale

Palmdale Deputies thwarted a suicide attempt Wednesday morning after chasing a 60 year old woman throughout the city. The incident began after deputies responded to the 1000 Block of East Avenue S, around midnight, regarding a critical missing adult. The informant on the call, the missing person’s son, indicated to handling deputies that his mother, 60 year old Monika Coombs, was missing and believed to be suicidal. She had left the home that evening in her Honda CRV. The son worried that based on her previous medical history and current state of mind, she might attempt to take her life. Deputies immediately broadcasted the description of both Coombs and her vehicle to assisting units, who began canvasing the area for her vehicle. At approximately 5:30 am deputies discovered Coombs’ parked near 40th Street East and Avenue Q-12. As deputies approached the vehicle, Coombs accelerated her car and swerved toward one of the deputies in an attempt to run him over. The Deputy was able to narrowly jump out of the way of the moving vehicle to safety. Using their handheld radios, deputies notified assisting units of Coombs’ actions and last seen direction of travel. Approximately ten minutes later assisting units found Coombs’ vehicle stuck in the sand near the 38200 Block of 37th Street East. The vehicle appeared to be abandoned as deputies approached. As deputies neared the car, they saw that Coombs lying down in the front seat attempting to cut her upper arm with a kitchen knife. Deputies also saw what appeared to be a note, indicating regret for Coombs’ actions, taped to the inside of her vehicles’ window. Fearing Coombs was attempting to take her life, deputies used their flashlight to break one of the windows. At the same time, Coombs began slashing her wrist with the knife and ignored deputies’ orders to drop the knife. In order to prevent Coombs from injuring herself further, deputies administered pepper spray into the interior of the vehicle, which caused Coombs to comply with deputies orders. Coombs was transported to a local medical facility and treated for her wounds before being booked at the Palmdale Sheriff Station for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer. She was subsequently transported to Twin Towers Jail Facility where she is receiving continuing treatment for her self-inflicted wounds and mental observation. Coombs is currently being held on $100,000 bail with an arraignment date of July 13th 2012. The ongoing investigation is being handled by the Palmdale Sheriff Station’s Detective Bureau.

Deputies Arrest Parolee after Sexually Assaulting Victim From Bail Bondsman In Palmdale

Palmdale Deputies arrested a parolee Wednesday afternoon after he sexually assaulted a victim in a store parking lot. The incident occurred when Palmdale Station received a call from an informant indicating they believed a 30 year old Black Male was harassing a female in the parking lot of the Auto Zone located near the 1100 Block of east Palmdale Blvd. When deputies arrived, they were confronted by a 37 year old female victim who told them she had just been sexually assaulted by a man that approached her in the parking lot. The victim told deputies she was working on her vehicle in the lot of the store when the suspect approached her and claimed to be a mechanic. When the victim refused the suspects’ offer to help, the suspect became angry and pinned her against the vehicle and began sexually assaulting her. The victim attempted to resist the suspect, but was over powered while she pled for help. The assault continued until suddenly the suspect was interrupted by a store employee who was walking through the parking lot. Seeing the store employee walking in the parking lot she asked for help, and told them she had just been assaulted by the suspect who was walking away. The employee jumped in their personal vehicle and began following the suspect while communicating with other store employees. The store employee followed the suspect towards the Courson Park area, near 11th Street East and Avenue Q12, where he lost sight of him. This information was broadcast to responding units who used the detailed description of the suspect to locate 41 year old Corey Green, walking northbound 10th Street East from the Courson Park area. Deputies detained Green, who was later positively identified as the suspect that assaulted the victim in the parking lot. The victim was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of her injuries sustained during the attack and is currently working with investigators on the incident. Green was transported to Palmdale Sheriff Station where he is being held on charges of Attempted Rape, Penetration with a Foreign Object, and Sexual Battery. It was later discovered Green is also on active parole with an ankle monitor for sexual assault and is currently a registered sex offender. He is being held without bail due to his parole status and is scheduled for arraignment on July 13th 2012.

Palmdale Station Confiscates over 300 pounds of Illegal Fireworks over the Fourth of July From Bail Bondsman In Palmdale

The City of Palmdale funded three teams and command post personnel to target illegal fireworks within the city. This included four deputies assigned to the county summer suppression team, which enforced the use of any fireworks in the county area. This team consisted of one lieutenant, three sergeants and twenty seven deputies, in addition to the Palmdale Station’s normal staffing for patrol related calls for service. The City of Palmdale also placed three, City of Palmdale Code Enforcement Officers with each team. The teams responded to 83 calls of illegal fireworks use throughout the night. 6500 lbs illegal fireworks, gun, cash seized from Compton home. 26,500 lbs fireworks seized by LASD this week From Bail Bondsman In Compton

Deputies from the Compton Sheriff's Station Special Assignment Team received information that illegal and highly dangerous fireworks were being stored and sold from a home in a heavily populated residential area in the City of Compton. Additional information was gathered by deputies which made it possible to obtain a search warrant for the duplex home on the 1100 block of East Pine Street, Compton. On Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at about 8:30AM, Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies executed the search warrant at the home. Deputies found a large amount of illegal and highly dangerous fireworks inside the detached garage of the home. The entire garage had been converted into a fireworks stand and opened for business. Inside the garage were several closed and unsealed boxes of illegal fireworks. The fireworks recovered consisted of skyrockets, mortars, pyrotechnics, and explosives. Deputies also recovered, inside the home, a reported stolen firearm and approximately $30,000 in U.S. currency. The weight of the fireworks was estimated at about 6,500 pounds and a street value of over $15,000.00. "Storing large amounts of fireworks in a residential area is extremely dangerous," said Captain Diane Walker, LASD Compton Sheriff's Station. "One spark could have ignited thousands of pounds of gunpowder-filled dangerous fireworks. This could have been devastating and deadly for a neighborhood of innocent people." Six women and two men were detained. The two men were arrested. One suspect was arrested for several offenses including possession of an explosive device and selling fireworks without a proper permit. The other suspect was arrested for receiving stolen property, a stolen firearm. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Arson / Explosives investigators and Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters were immediately notified of the fireworks seizure. Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters took possession of the illegal fireworks and properly disposed of them. Both suspects were transported to and booked at the LASD Century Regional Detention Facility. The criminal case against both suspects will be submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. The six females who were detained at the house were later released after determining they had no criminal involvement. This was the fourth major seizure of illegal dangerous fireworks by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department this week. A total of 26,500 pounds of dangerous illegal fireworks have been recovered by the LASD this past week.

2 Suspected Female Lookouts Arrested at Carson Home Burglary + 2 Males Arrested After They Ran From Bail Bondsman In Carson

On Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at 11:17 a.m., Carson Sheriff's Station deputies responded to a burglary in progress call in the 1400 block of Bach Street in the City of Carson. Responding deputies quickly contained the location and detained two females who may have been involved. During the investigation, it was determined the two females were suspected of acting as lookouts for male suspects who were allegedly in the process of burglarizing the home. The male suspects fled the location as deputies arrived. Stolen property and burglary tools were located in the backyards of several adjacent homes. Assisting sheriff's deputies were directed to the area where it was believed the male suspects fled. The male suspects were eventually detained several blocks from where the burglary occurred. Suspects Jackneshia Paxton (FB/25, resident of Los Angeles), Robert Benson (MB/22, resident of Los Angeles), Jameella Fletcher (FB/29, resident of Long Beach), and Calvin Sims Jr. (MB/18, resident of Watts), were arrested for residential burglary and booked at Carson Sheriff's Station, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The investigation is ongoing.

Palmdale Detectives need help identifying two Robbery Suspects that held up a convenience store Thursday afternoon From Bail Bondsman In Palmdale

The two suspects entered the convenience store near the 400 Block of East Palmdale Blvd, Thursday just before noon and began selecting items in the store. The two placed their items on the counter and while the clerk began ringing up the items one suspect removed a black revolver from his pocket and ordered the clerk onto the ground. While the suspect continued to point the firearm at the clerk, the other suspect rounded the counter and began removing the cash from the register drawer. After emptying the cash register, the two ran out of the store, through the front door and into the surrounding neighborhood. Both suspects are described as 18 to 20 year old Black Males. 102 Felony Counts Alleging $1.8M Grand Theft & ID Theft by Real Estate Broker & Agent in Two Counties From Bail Bondsman In Long Beach

Suspect John Wesley Martynec, 38, of Long Beach, is a licensed real estate broker. Suspect Elek Andrade, 27, of Downey, is a licensed real estate salesperson. In a case investigated by the Commercial Crimes Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, on June 27, 2012, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Martynec and Andrade with 102 felony counts of Grand Theft and Identity Theft each. The charges were in connection with a complex and sophisticated fraud scheme resulting in the theft of nearly $1.8 million from their employer. The Los Angeles County Superior Court case number is BA399168. JTR Real Estate in Norwalk was in the business of purchasing residential real estate properties, fixing them up, and reselling them for profit. This is a practice commonly known as “flipping.” Results Mortgage, also located in Norwalk, was formed to provide financing for the properties owned by JTR Real Estate. Between November, 2003, and July, 2008, Martynec and Andrade were employed by JTR Real Estate and Results Mortgage. While employed there, it is alleged that Martynec and Andrade committed theft in the following ways: * JTR Real Estate purchased residential properties which were often occupied by renters. In order to avoid a lengthy eviction process, the company would offer cash pay outs to renters as incentive to move out voluntarily. It is alleged that Martynec and Andrade submitted false “move out” invoices to the company, claiming that cash pay outs were offered to renters, when in fact they were not. The identities of actual persons were stolen and placed on the fraudulent “move out” invoices. The suspects then diverted the money to themselves. * It is alleged that Martynec and Andrade submitted false invoices to their employer for contractor costs associated with the rehabilitation of properties, when in fact the work was never done, and then diverted the funds to themselves. * It is alleged that Martynec embezzled funds by creating false entries in financial ledgers and diverting funds to a company he controlled named JWM Enterprises. Defrauded properties were from throughout Los Angeles County and Orange County, including Anaheim, Compton, Covina, Downey, El Monte, Inglewood, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Montebello, Placentia, Pomona, Rosemead, South Gate, Temple City, West Covina and Whittier. Investigators determined the defrauded monies were used by Suspect Martynec to remodel his Long Beach home with a second floor addition, a pool, and outdoor BBQ area, as well as lavish vacations including $3,000.00 per night hotel suites in Maui. Large sums were also used to commit millions of dollars of mortgage fraud. On June 27, 2012, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Martynec at his home in Long Beach, and arrested Andrade at his home in Downey. Both are being held on $1,789,949 bail.

A Santa Ana bail bondsman pleaded guilty to and was convicted Friday of paying an inmate to drum up business inside the Orange County Jail, a conviction that will cost him his license and lead to six months in jail.

In 2009 and 2010, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office, James Everett Morris Jr., 49, who owns James Morris Bail Bonds, paid a jail inmate commissions for notifying him when other inmates needed bail. He will be sentenced in September.

Investigators found that the inmate received $100 one day and $200 another day for the referrals. To build the case, prosecutors used audiotaped phone calls made from the jail.

Another bondsman at the firm, Kenneth L. Hendrick, 49, of Mission Viejo, is accused of using 11 jail inmates to inform him about other inmates who needed bail between March and December 2010.

Twice, authorities said, Hendrick broke the law by recommending the name of an attorney while on the phone with an inmate. He could face 11 years and 8 months in prison if convicted.

State law forbids bail bonds agents from using inmates to solicit business.

Prosecutors say that if such a practice were allowed, it could promote a dangerous climate in which criminals competed for commissions and were tempted to use strong-arm persuasion to win them.

Stovetop Fire Leads to 2,000 pounds / $6 Million Marijuana Seizure From Bail Bondsman In Norwalk

Deputies at the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station responded to a condominium Thursday evening regarding a “fire” call on the 12000 block of Cheshire Street, Norwalk. When deputies and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived at the location, they saw smoke coming out of the windows. Based on the emergent nature of the situation, they made entry into the residence to locate possible victims inside. There was no one in the condominium. They determined the source of the smoke was food burning on the range top. After the fire was extinguished, the deputies noticed a large amount of marijuana in several adjacent rooms. Deputies obtained a search warrant and recovered over 2000 pounds of large packaged marijuana worth an estimated street value of over $6,000,000. Detectives were unable to locate any suspects and are investigating the owners of the condominium.

4 Arrested for Operating L.A. Chop Shop: Long Beach & Fullerton cars found chopped - TRAP From Bail Bondsman In Long Beach

On Wednesday June 20, 2012, at approximately 8:30 pm members from the Taskforce for Regional Autotheft Prevention (T.R.A.P.) conducted a probation compliance search at the 300 block of West 51st Street, Los Angeles. Detectives observed several males in the back yard dismantling a 2001 Acura Integra. When the detectives made contact with them, two males fled into the residence and were later located hiding inside. A resident of the location, 30 year-old Suspect Rashad Criss of Los Angeles and three other males; 29 year-old Suspect Joshua Gonzalez of Los Angeles, 27 year-old Suspect Bryan Agustin of Norwalk and 22 year-old Suspect Richard Lopez of Stanton, were arrested for operating a chop shop. The Acura was stolen from the Cal State Long Beach college campus earlier in the day. The owner was unaware that his vehicle had been stolen until he was contacted by law enforcement. Detectives also located components belonging to a 2006 Acura RSX stolen from the Cal State Fullerton college campus June 19, 2012. The victims of the thefts were from Redlands and Huntington Beach.

Victim chases Burglar out of home and follows him in car while dialing 911! From Bail Bondsman In Palmdale

Palmdale Station received a 911 call Tuesday morning indicating the caller was following a burglar she had just chased out of her home. The incident began when a Palmdale female resident was inside her home Tuesday morning near the 37000 Block of Vintage Dr. While in her home she noticed that her bedroom door had become locked from within. The resident, home with her husband and elderly mother, exited her house and saw that the screen covering the window leading into her bedroom had been pried off. She also saw that the door was no longer locked but stood wide open. Believing an intruder was in her home the resident ran back into her home just in time to see her husband chasing a Male, later identified as Brandon Simmons, from the inside of her home out through the front door. The resident jumped into her vehicle and began following the suspect, who was on foot, through the neighborhood while calling 911. Palmdale deputies responded to the scene and quickly broadcast a description of the suspect, who was shortly detained in front of the “Eagle Vision Community Church,” near the 2700 Block of East Avenue R. 19 year old Brandon Simmons was transported and booked at the Palmdale Sheriff Station on charges of Burglary and is being held on $50,000 bail. His arraignment date is scheduled for June 28, 2012, at the Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse. Deputies determined Simmons had begun to rummage through the victim’s closet but believe he was surprised by the victims being home and attempting to enter the locked bedroom. When the Simmons fled the location he did not take any items from the residence.
