Arrested, Fired L.A. County worker arrested in tax fraud case, From Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

Trang Van Dinh of Glendale was detained after returning from Vietnam. Accused of using welfare applicants' information to seek $2 million in bogus returns, he had been indicted on multiple counts.

Federal authorities this week arrested a former Los Angeles County worker who allegedly used the personal information of more than 150 welfare applicants to file nearly $2 million in fraudulent claims for tax refunds.

Trang Van Dinh, a 62-year-old resident of Glendale, worked for the county for a decade and filed the returns in a desperate attempt to pay gambling debts, county auditors said.

Dinh was arrested Monday as he returned from a trip to Vietnam, two months after a federal grand jury indicted him on 11 counts of making false claims to the Internal Revenue Service and 11 counts of identity theft. If convicted of all charges, Dinh could face a maximum of 220 years in federal prison.

His arrest comes months after Dinh was fired from his county job after acknowledging wrongdoing in an interview with county investigators, said Guy Zelenski, chief investigator for the county auditor-controller. County officials spoke to Dinh after IRS investigators notified them of their suspicions.

"He thought he could pay the IRS back and he would have no problems," Zelenski said.

The IRS investigation found that Dinh used the names, Social Security numbers and other identifying information of more than 150 people in his caseload to prepare the fraudulent tax returns.

Dinh filed his returns electronically and sought to have tax refunds sent directly to bank accounts he controlled, according to federal prosecutors.

The returns sought about $1.9 million in refunds from the IRS, which had paid about $1 million of the fraudulent claims before discovering something was amiss. Although bank officials were able to freeze some of the funds, IRS officials estimate that Dinh got about $650,000 in fraudulent refunds.

Despite Dinh's apparent admission to county officials last year, it took time before the U.S. attorney's office was able to win an indictment against him. In the interim he was able to leave the country to travel to Vietnam.

It was unclear when investigators gave the case to the U.S. attorney's office. Once filed, it required approval from officials in Washington before an indictment could be sought from the grand jury.

"The bottom line is that he left the country before he was charged, and we really don't have the ability to stop a person from leaving the country simply because they are suspected of fraudulent activity," Assistant U.S. Atty. Angela J. Davis said. "The government absolutely prioritized the case."

$100,000 Dollar Bail for Lindsay Lohan but she won't be arrested when she returns to Los Angeles, from Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

Actress Lindsay Lohan won't be arrested when she returns to the United States, despite an arrest warrant issued Thursday by a Beverly Hills judge.

Steve Whitmore, a Sheriff's Department spokesman, said Lohan's representatives have posted 10% of the $100,000 bond, and so the arrest warrant was recalled.

"She will not be arrested when she comes back into United States," Whitmore said.

On Thursday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel slammed Lohan for failing to appear in court.

"Actions speak louder than words. I’ve heard the best words in the world, but the actions are far more important," Revel said. "She has a history of not keeping scheduled appointments.... I couldn’t have been more clear about the priority of this case and getting things done."

Revel issued the warrant for Lohan after she failed to appear because she is still in France. Lohan, through her attorney, claimed to be stuck in Cannes after her passport was stolen and skipped the mandatory appearance for a probation hearing for a 2007 intoxication conviction.

Revel said Lohan should have either skipped the Cannes trip or made sure she was back in L.A. two days before the hearing.

Bail has been posted on Lindsays warrant, we will update the information on her case as we receive it.

LAPD officer pleads guilty to misdemeanor assault in Texas, From Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

A Los Angeles police officer charged in Texas for allegedly forcing himself on a motel employee while she was retrieving a crib for his infant was placed on two years' probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault, authorities said Wednesday.

As a condition of the plea deal, Silvio Sam Filipovich, 44, quit the LAPD and agreed not to reapply as a police officer in California or anywhere else.

"He had a history of hiding behind his uniform," said Mark Pryor, who prosecuted the case for the Travis County district attorney's office. "It was important to us, as the prosecuting authority, and the victim, that he [Filipovich] never be allowed to be a police officer again

Filipovich was on extended leave from the LAPD at the time of the April 2009 incident at the Mountain Star Lodge just outside Austin.

Authorities said the 22-year LAPD veteran, who was staying at the motel with his wife and child, asked the woman to retrieve a crib for the baby. He then allegedly pushed her into a closet and tried to fondle her before she fought him off. Prosecutors originally charged Filipovich with attempted sexual assault.

Filipovich had a history of misconduct allegations at the time of his arrest, according to records obtained by The Times.

The records dating to 1995 indicated LAPD officials had recommended discipline of more than 100 days for Filipovich's alleged offenses, including trying to improperly convert an on-duty contact into a social relationship, making a discourteous remark and being discourteous during traffic stops.

Department officials also alleged that while Filipovich was off duty, he inappropriately exposed himself in a public place. It was unclear from the records what, if any, discipline he received.

Filipovich could not be reached for comment.

L.A. County Sheriff's Department looks into misconduct allegations, Reviewed by Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating allegations of misconduct by deputies involved in a drug case that was dismissed last week after records appeared to contradict their account of a drug possession arrest.

Prosecutors said the inconsistencies prompted them to drop a felony charge Wednesday against Tatiana Anjuli Lopez, 26. Lopez's attorney filed court records accusing the deputies of lying about her arrest and seeking to have her prosecuted in retaliation for her filing a complaint against them.

Lopez and her fiancé were arrested in Downey on Oct. 7 on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs.

In an arrest report, Deputy Francisco Enriquez said he drove Lopez in his patrol car to the department's Century Station in Lynwood. When she got out of his car, Enriquez wrote, he noticed a plastic bag containing nine bags of methamphetamine on the floor near where Lopez had been sitting.

But radio communications show that a different deputy told dispatchers that he was transporting Lopez to the station, according to court documents filed by Lopez's attorney, Thomas E. Beck.

"The crime report was deliberately falsified," Beck said. "The whole case was fabricated against my client."

The district attorney's office initially declined to file charges against Lopez, concluding that there was not enough evidence. But prosecutors later charged her with possession for sale of a controlled substance after deputies wrote new reports that provided more details about the night of the arrest.

Those reports were written Nov. 17, a day after Beck said he and Lopez met with a sheriff's lieutenant to discuss a misconduct complaint she had filed against the deputies.

"It was blatant retaliation," Beck said. "They circled the wagons to cover up the behavior."

Sheriff's Chief William McSweeney, who heads the detective division, said a preliminary review conducted several months ago found no dishonesty by the deputies.

McSweeney said the deputy who contacted dispatchers about transporting Lopez did so on behalf of Enriquez as they drove in patrol cars to the station. The chief also disputed the allegation that deputies retaliated against Lopez, saying the additional reports were written after a prosecutor told sheriff's officials he needed more details about the drug arrest before he could file charges.

Nonetheless, he said the department would investigate the details of the arrest but warned against jumping to conclusions.

"From what we currently know, our deputies acted honorably," McSweeney said. "Accusations from defense attorneys are part of the law enforcement environment."

Michael Gennaco, chief attorney in the sheriff's Office of Independent Review, which oversees discipline of deputies, said the department was opening an internal affairs investigation.

"We'll move forward in an aggressive way to get to the bottom of it," he said.

Mark Ashen, the deputy in charge of the district attorney's Downey area office, said he plans to review the case to determine whether it should be referred to the district attorney's division that handles criminal prosecutions of police officers.

"There seems to be an inconsistency there," he said, "but as to whether it was intentional or not or what the circumstances are, we don't know at this point."

Lopez was a student at Cerritos College and had no criminal record when she was arrested.

Her fiancé, Miguel Amarillas, 27, who said he once associated with a gang, was twice incarcerated, the first time for robbery in 2000 and the second for assault in 2007, according to prison records. He worked checking cables on oil rigs for a company in Long Beach.

On the evening of their arrest, Lopez and Amarillas were driving to her parents' house in South Gate to pick up her 5-year-old son when they stopped for gas near their home in Downey. Lopez said deputies suddenly appeared in two patrol cars and ordered them out.

Enriquez, who was assigned to a narcotics strike team, wrote in his report that he stopped the pair after seeing Amarillas' gold 1993 Lexus driving dangerously on Imperial Highway.

Enriquez said he spoke to the couple and noticed that Lopez was speaking rapidly and sweating, even though the night was cool. He suspected that she and Amarillas were on drugs, and the couple were taken to the sheriff's station in separate patrol cars.

After he dropped Lopez off, Enriquez wrote, he and other deputies searched the couple's home, where he found another bag with drugs in a bedroom dresser. The bag, he wrote, contained the same distinctive insignia as the bags found in the patrol car.

Enriquez said he gave Lopez and Amarillas a chance to provide a urine sample for a drug test, but they refused.

Lopez and Amarillas tell a very different story.

The couple said they were never asked to take a urine test and that they had not used drugs and did not possess any. Lopez accused the deputies of trying to pressure her into saying that the drugs belonged to her fiancé and said a deputy threatened to have her son removed.

Lopez was jailed for two days before she was released without charges, according to court records. Amarillas was also eventually released without charges.

Lopez said the episode left her traumatized and that she has had trouble sleeping since then.

"I'd seen it in the movies, but never in a million years did I think it would happen to me," Lopez said.

After Lopez was charged, her attorney sought radio communications and other records of deputies involved in the arrest. A sheriff's detective said in a report that he twice inquired about the records and was told there were none.

But Beck sent a subpoena directly to the Sheriff's Department, which provided the radio recordings and other records that he said confirmed his client's account.

On Wednesday, Lopez stood in a Downey courtroom next to her attorney as a prosecutor told Superior Court Commissioner Burt Barnett that the district attorney's office was dropping the case.

"Good idea," Barnett replied.

$150,000 Bail for Robbery Suspects Busted with their Kids, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Van Nuys | Los Angeles

Sherman Oaks - A man and woman were arrested Monday after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a brief chase in a car with their two children in the back seat.

William Farag and Nadia Redoble, both 28 and from Van Nuys, were arrested about 3:30 a.m. and booked for three counts of suspicion of robbery, said California Highway Patrol Officer Leland Tang. Bail for each was set at $150,000, according to the sheriff's department.

Two CHP officers going into eat at Encino IHOP at 15635 Ventura Blvd., near Haskell Avenue, were told by a restaurant employee that a man wearing a ski mask had pointed a handgun at two co-workers, Los Angeles police said.

The man had run and gotten into a black Nissan Maxima driven by a woman. She sped off, with the officers in pursuit.

The chase ended when the officers used a PIT maneuver. Officers then discovered there were 4- and 6-year-old children in the car.

Neither child was injured, but the CHP officers did not know the children were in the car when they began the chase.

The children were taken into protective custody.

Further investigation linked the pair to two additional robberies, Los Angeles police said.

The first was at 2:45 a.m. at the Rite Aid at 13333 Riverside Drive, near Fulton Avenue, in Sherman Oaks. A second robbery occurred at an Encino CVS Pharmacy at 17320 Ventura Blvd., near Louise Avenue, at 3 a.m., just before the IHOP robbery.

The District Attorney's Office was asked to consider charges for child endangering, being a felon in possession of a gun and felony evading.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call robbery detectives at (818) 374-7730.

The Bail amount for William Farag is currently $150,000 and the the bail for Nadia Redoble is currently $155,000 which includes a $5,0000 warrant in addition to the $150,000 bail for the open charge.

Bail Amount Set $100,501 for Phony Photographer who Turns Self In, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale | Los Angeles

Los Angeles - A South Los Angeles man accused of posing as a magazine photographer to grope young women turned himself in today, police said.

Keith Nichols, 22, allegedly told several young women he was a photographer for Vibe Magazine, and they agreed to let him "measure" their most intimate body parts for "custom-fitted underwear," Capt. Blake Chow of the Los Angeles Police Department said earlier.

Nichols told the women that if their measurements were right, they could get a modeling job for Vibe Magazine, Chow said.

The women realized they had "been duped when Nichols never returned phone calls," he said.

Nichols, who has worked as a security guard and lived in Compton, turned himself in to police around 1 this afternoon, and bail was set at $1000,501, according to jail records.

"The `measuring' sessions often occurred spontaneously in secluded, public places, where Nichols used a measuring tape as a prop," Chow said. "While none of the woman recalled him taking photographs, Nichols did touch the women's bare breasts and groins with his hands.

"These crimes amount only to a misdemeanor at this point, but the potential for a more serious crime is there," Chow said earlier. "We don't know how many women Nichols has approached, how many have submitted, or if he has committed more serious crimes."

"The lure of Hollywood and a big career in modeling blinded these girls from reality," Chow said. "That's what con artists rely on."

Nichols currently has the existing open charge as well as a warrant, we will provide more information on his bail or case information as it comes in.

Bail Amount Set $100,000...Ex-LAPD Officer Arrested in Saddleback Church Burglary, from Los Angeles | Orange County Bail Bondsman

Lake Forest - A former Los Angeles police officer was behind bars on Wednesday, facing allegations of burglarizing Saddleback Church several times since August 2008, when he worked there as a security guard, an Orange County sheriff's spokesman said.

Charles Mottern, 45, of Irvine, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, evading arrest, resisting arrest and may also face charges of impersonating a police officer, sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said. Bail was set at $100,000, Amormino said.

Mottern was working at the church in August 2008 when church officials began noticing things missing, Amormino said. Then about 5 a.m. Thursday, security guards interrupted a burglary but were unable to catch the thief, he added.

A black BMW parked across the street at the strip mall, however, was seen speeding away, and sheriff's detectives traced it to Mottern, Amormino said.

While en route to Mottern's home Tuesday, deputies spotted him in the BWM and tried to make a traffic stop, Amormino said. Eventually, he pulled over, but got out of the car and ran, he said.

Deputies used a Taser in arresting him, Amormino said. Mottern's booking photo also showed him with a bruised and cut face.

Stolen items recovered from Mottern's home included such things as camera equipment, computers, phones and walkie-talkies, Amormino said.

"Any kind of electronic equipment that wasn't nailed down was taken," he said.

Mottern also had a phony police identification on him, Amormino said.

Mottern stopped working at Saddleback in December 2008, Amormino said, adding he does not know why. Mottern's employment with the LAPD ended in 1996.

Mottern is still in custody at the Orange County Mens Facility in Santa Ana, The Bail Bond required for hom is $100,000 and All American Bail Bonds is following the case. We will provide more information as it relates to bail and the Bail Bonding Services we perform.

Kerry's daughter not to face drunk-driving charge, The B.S. just keeps getting DEEPER. From Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

From (AFP)

LOS ANGELES — The daughter of former US presidential candidate John Kerry will not be charged after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Los Angeles prosecutors have said.

Alexandra Kerry, 36, a film producer and director, was detained early Thursday after being pulled over in Hollywood.

"We've declined to file charges in that matter due to insufficiency of the evidence," Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office confirmed on Monday.

US Senator John Kerry issued a statement criticizing those who rushed to the conclusion that his daughter had been inebriated.

"Despite some speculation, my daughter was pulled over for an expired registration, not for erratic driving," he said.

"A breathalyzer test at the police station revealed she was under the legal limit. She was released a short time later, not at 5:30 am or after being held overnight, as some reported," said the Massachusetts senator, who as Democratic Party candidate lost the 2004 presidential election to George W. Bush.

The senator added: "While she regrets driving with an expired registration, and takes full responsibility for it, that mistake should never have been compounded by erroneous reports suggesting she was driving drunk."

Alexandra Kerry was arrested after she allegedly committed a traffic violation. Officers then conducted a field sobriety test and placed her under arrest. A blood alcohol test produced a reading of 0.06, under California's legal limit of 0.08, according to news reports.

She wrote and directed a short film in 2004 and had a bit part role in David Mamet's 2004 thriller "Spartan."

Under California law, individuals can still be prosecuted for DUI -- even if the level is less than 0.08 -- if a vehicle was judged to have been operated unsafely due to alcohol.

As a bail bondsman in Los Angeles I see it all, I will tell you right now some people are above the law.

.06, .08, who cares; charges should be filed for if any one else was arrested under the same circumstances I will guarantee you that charges would be filed. Once again it's not what you know....It's Who You know.

Good Lookin' out Senator ; )

Bail Bond Granted...Polanski Wins Bail in Switzerland, Stays in Jail, from Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

GENEVA (AP)-A Swiss court granted Roman Polanski bail on Wednesday, accepting $4.5 million to allow him to remain under house arrest at his chalet. The director will stay in prison for up to 10 days while the Swiss government decides whether to appeal.

The Swiss Criminal Court reversed its previous rejection of bail, saying it was confident the large cash guarantee would compel Polanski to remain at his chalet in the Swiss resort of Gstaad under house arrest and monitored by an electronic bracelet.

The court said it still viewed him as a high flight risk. The verdict does not affect the Swiss Justice Ministry's ongoing assessment of whether Polanski should be extradited to the United States for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl. Polanski fled sentencing in Los Angeles a year later.

"The 76-year-old appellant is married and the father of two minors," the court said as it considered Polanski's offer of a cash bail secured by his apartment in Paris. "It can be assumed that as a responsible father he will, especially in view of his advanced age, attach greater importance to the financial security of his family than a younger person."

The court said Polanski would be subjected to "constant electronic surveillance" at his chalet and an alarm would be activated if he leaves the premises or takes off the bracelet.

But Polanski wasn't immediately released by the Swiss Justice Ministry, which ordered him arrested Sept. 26 as he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival.

"We will decide quickly on whether to order his release or file an appeal with the Federal Tribunal," ministry spokesman Folco Galli said. Authorities had 10 days to refer the matter to the tribunal, Switzerland's highest court, but Galli said they would make their decision before that.

The Federal Tribunal said it had yet to receive an appeal.

Polanski's lawyers Lorenz Erni in Zurich and Herve Temime in Paris declined to comment. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office also had no reaction, spokeswoman Shiara Davila-Morales said.

The decision came as a surprise after a series of setbacks for the director of "Rosemary's Baby," ''Chinatown," and "The Pianist."

Swiss legal experts had said earlier that Polanski's chances of bail were slim, and even U.S. authorities expressed confidence that a Swiss court wouldn't grant his release.

The court last month rejected Polanski's first bail offer of his Gstaad chalet as collateral, which the director claimed made up more than half of his personal wealth and would definitely guard against his flight because he has two children he must support through school.

This time, the court looked favorably on Polanski's offer of cash and the threat of sacrificing his family's home if he fled justice.

"Cash is king," said Peter Cosandey, a former Zurich prosecutor. Still, he said he could "hardly remember a case where bail is granted to someone who isn't even a full-time Swiss resident."
A decision on extraditing Polanski to Los Angeles is still pending, and would also be subject to appeals.

Polanski was accused of raping the 13-year-old girl after plying her with champagne and a Quaalude pill during a modeling shoot in 1977. He was initially indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of
drugs, child molesting and sodomy.

Polanski pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful sexual intercourse. In exchange, the judge agreed to drop the remaining charges and sentence him to prison for a 90-day psychiatric evaluation. The evaluator release Polanski after 42 days, but the judge said he was going to send him back to serve out the 90 days.
Polanski then fled the country on Feb. 1, 1978, the day he was to be sentenced and has lived in France since.
Polanski claims the judge and prosecutors acted improperly. A California appeals court will listen to oral arguments from his attorneys next month. They will be urging the court to order a lower court to decide whether to dismiss charges against the fugitive director, whether he is present or not.

As a bail bonding company with bail bonding offices throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernadino county we find this story interesting for the simple reason that we were unaware that Switzerland even had the bail process. We will provide more information on this bail story as details come in.

Out on Bail, Arrested UCLA basketball player Dragovic posts bail, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Hollywood | Los Angeles

UCLA basketball player Nikola Dragovic, arrested on a felony assault charge stemming from a fight at a concert last month, was out on $30,000 bail Saturday, police said.

The 6 foot-9 inch, 21-year-old forward born in Serbia-Montenegro surrendered to campus police, then Los Angeles police detectives, about 1 p.m. Friday after being informed by prosecutors that he was being charged, according to law enforcement officials.

The booking and release process began about 11:00 a.m. Friday. Dragovic posted bail of $30,000 and was released later that night, said Los Angeles
police Sgt. Enrique Mendoza of the Hollywood Station.

It was unclear what led to the charge, other than it happened at a concert in Hollywood last month. An arrest warrant was issued Thursday, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Dragovic was absent from his team's 75-64 win Friday over Cal State Bakersfield. His status for upcoming games will be determined as more information becomes available, said Marc Dellins, a spokesman for UCLA sports.

The Bruins play Pepperdine at Pauley Pavilion on Monday.

"This is an unfortunate situation for Nikola,'' coach Ben Howland said. "Our staff and players will do what we can to help him during this time. He made us aware of the incident when it occurred, but until this morning, we did not know charges would be filed.''

Dragovic had 14 rebounds in a 68-65 double-overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton Monday.

Dragovic was arrested Nov. 7, 2008 on suspicion of battery after a fight with a former live-in girlfriend in the Palms area, but no charges were filed after prosecutors from the City Attorney's Office questioned each separately, the Los Angeles Times reported in December.

Iran releases ex-official on Bail Bond in mass trial, from Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

Former vice president Mohammad Ali Abtahi, second right, in prison uniform among other defendants, sits at the court room in Tehran, Iran, in August. Abtahi, a top reformer has been sentenced to six years in jail after he stood trial on charges of fomenting unrest to topple the Iranian regime, his lawyer said Sunday.

TEHRAN, Iran - A former vice president has been released on bail in the mass trial of opposition figures accused of fomenting the Iran's post-election unrest, the official IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.

Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said that Mohammad Ali Abtahi was released on a $700,000 bail after the verdict was delivered. The report did not say what his sentence was.

Earlier on Sunday the defendant's lawyer, Saleh Nikbakht said a court sentenced Abtahi to six years in jail for fomenting the unrest after the disputed June presidential election,Abtahi, who served as a vice president during former President Mohammad Khatami's two terms from 1997-2005, is the most senior former official among the more than 100 people on trial since August.

Khatami is now one of the leading figures in the pro-reform movement in Iran.

Last week, state television reported that five defendants in the mass trial have been sentenced to death and 81 got prison terms ranging from six months up to 15 years.

Abtahi made televised confessions after his arrest in which he admitted provoking people to riot. But his family and other opposition figures said the statements were coerced and similar claims have been made about other defendants' confessions during the trial.

Rights groups and opposition figures in Iran have criticized the court proceedings as a "show trial."

In the weeks following the June 12 election, the opposition led massive street protests that drew hundreds of thousands and supporters clashed with security forces. They claimed fraud after authorities declared President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner of a second term, and the protests were the most serious internal unrest in Iran in the 30 years since the Islamic Revolution.

Iran's clergy-led establishment accused the protesters of trying to stage a "velvet revolution." A harsh crackdown ended the demonstrations and a security sweep went far beyond rounding up just protesters on the streets, snatching up rights activists and journalists, as well as pro-reform politicians.

The government has stopped short of indicting the most visible opposition leaders, presidential candidates Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi, but there have been signs in recent weeks that could change. The opposition says Mousavi is the rightful winner of the election.

As we are Bail Bondsman running a Bail Bonds service in Los Angeles and Licensed to conduct Bail business throughout California, we were suprised to see that that the country of Iran had a type of bail for defendants awaiting trial or sentencing. We will provide more information on this story as it does relate to bail or bail bonds.

Five Arrests in Long Beach Poly Attacks, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach

Long Beach - Police arrested five Long Beach Poly High School freshmen for sexual battery after two girls were allegedly attacked on campus, it was reported today.

The arrests stem from an incident that occurred near the student store on Tuesday toward the end of the lunch break, police and school officials told the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

The students were "involved in a brief situation where at least one of the boys apparently groped one or more of the girls," Chris Eftychiou, spokesman for the Long Beach Unified School District told the newspaper, adding that there were no signs of force and no medical attention was required, he said.

After receiving a complaint from one of the girls, the district called the police, he told the newspaper.

A spokesman for the Long Beach Police Department could not be reached for comment today.

The suspects were arrested separately on school grounds throughout last week as the investigation progressed, Lt. Ty Hatfield of the Long Beach Police Department's Juvenile Division told the newspaper.

The boys' names were withheld because they are minors. Police and Eftychiou said that at least some of the boys are on the freshman football team, the Press-Telegram reported.

The boys were released to their parents following their arrests, Eftychiou told the newspaper. Three of the boys have been suspended from school for five days, the other two were sent to alternative schools in the district, he added.

"These students are facing some significant disciplinary measures for it," he told the newspaper. "We don't turn a blind eye to that sort of thing."

The attack may not have been an isolated incident and investigators are looking for any other victims who may not have come forward. Police asked anyone with information about this incident, or a similar incident, to call the LBPD's Juvenile Division at (562) 570-1425.
