Deputies & Brave Citizen Rescue Elderly Man from Burning House. LASD Bellflower Deputies Hospitalized From Bail Bondsman In Lakewood

Bellflower deputies from Lakewood Sheriff's Station responded to an emergency call at noon Saturday regarding a structural fire call at the 9500 block of Rose Street, Bellflower. When they arrived, they noticed the rear of the house was on fire with black smoke spewing out from the roof. They also heard a male voice calling for help from inside the home. The deputies were initially unable to gain entry into the home due to metal security bars on the windows and doors. One deputy forcibly pulled off one of the security bars with his hands and broke a window to the home. The small opening was not big enough to allow the deputies to gain entry, so they quickly moved over to a locked kitchen security door in an attempt to gain entry. Again the deputies was too big to get through the small opening. Meanwhile, the victim’s neighbor, a 59 year-old male, came to the aid of the deputies. He was smaller and was able to squeeze through the small opening the deputies had created in the window. Once inside, he opened the kitchen door so the deputies could come inside the home. By this time, the house was filled with black smoke but deputies ran into the burning house, located the victim, and carried the 85-year old male resident outside to safety. The 85-year old victim and two deputies were transported to local hospitals where they were treated for their injuries. The victim was later released; however, the two deputies have been admitted to the hospital for overnight observation. They are in stable condition. The neighbor was seen by Los Angeles County firefighters at the scene, but declined further medical treatment. Los Angeles County Firefighters acted quickly and saved the house. Per firefighters, the fire was deemed accidental and caused approximately $25,000.00 in structural damage and $5,000 in property damage. "The deputies and brave neighbor quickly worked together to save the man's life," said Captain Mike Parker, Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. "We are certainly proud of our deputies, but the victim was also very fortunate to have a neighbor brave enough to climb through iron bars into a burning house to save him."

Checkpoint Scheduled in the City of Palmdale this Weekend From Bail Bondsman In Palmdale

We at All American Bail Bonds would like to inform the residents of Palmdale that the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI Checkpoint on Friday, August 10, 2012 at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. DUI checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool effective in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough. Deputies will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Deputies will also check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000. “Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 7 lives and resulted in 88 injury crashes harming 121 of our friends and neighbors,” said Palmdale Sheriff’s Station Sergeant M. Johnston. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public. “Deaths from drunk and drug-impaired driving are going down in California,” said Christopher J. Murphy, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). “But that still means that hundreds of our friends, family and co-workers are killed each year, along with tens of thousands who are seriously injured. We must all continue to work together to bring an end to these tragedies. If you see a Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1.” Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the City of Palmdale by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, targeting those who still don’t heed the message to designate a sober driver.

Night Cliff Rescue of Two Truck Driver From Bail Bondsman In Malibu

A late night call Friday to a tow company to retrieve a motorcycle over a cliff on Mulholland Hwy in Malibu resulted in a Sheriff's cliffside rescue of the tow truck driver. The 2 1/2 hour rescue was the 75th rescue handled by the Malibu Search and Rescue Team of the Angeles County Sheriff’s Department so far in 2012. At 9:30PM, the Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR) Team of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrived at the site about a mile north of Pacific Coast Highway. They were called to the site to rescue a man who was clinging to the side of a cliff in the dark. He had gone down over the side of a cliff to retrieve a motorcycle that had been involved in an accident hours before. In the earlier accident, a motorcycle rider had been thrown about 20-30 feet over the cliff but was able to make it to the top of Mulholland Hwy before rescuers arrived on scene. His motorcycle however was not so lucky, sliding hundreds of feet down the cliffside. Two men from a tow company arrived later to retrieve the motorcycle in the dark. One of the men carried a cable over the cliff towards the motorcycle. When he was about 200 feet over the side he slipped on the unstable ground and slid freely past the motorcycle about another 50 feet. Having lost hold of his cable and desperately hanging on to the soft dirt and bushes, the 36-year old Newbury Park resident needed to be secured by Sheriff’s Malibu SAR personnel into a harness and safely raised up the precarious cliff. The area is quite dark at night and even with the Sheriff's floodlights to illuminate the area it is still difficult to see (photos). “It was a good thing we reached the man when we did," said Sheriff’s Malibu Search and Rescue Team Public Information Officer, Reserve Sergeant David Katz. "While he was tired and unharmed, our first rescuer to reach him reported that the man was clinging to the side of the cliff so tightly that the rescuer had difficulty wrapping the man in the rescue harness." Katz went on to say “it turned out that the extreme darkness masked the sheer cliff just below the stranded man. With large rocks and boulders below, the man was very lucky to have not slid further or the result could have been tragic." The LASD Malibu Search and Rescue Team has responded to 75 rescues in the Santa Monica Mountains and nearby beaches in 2012, an increase from 68 by this time last year. 30 volunteers, including reserve sheriff's deputies, nurses and other civilians responded to 128 call-outs in 2011, which was an all-time high. Search and Rescue Team members are reserve sheriff’s deputies who volunteer their time to help others for $1 a year, and who partner with sheriff’s civilian volunteers who volunteer for free. There are over 150 members of the eight Search and Rescue teams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. These rescuers were activated for over 450 search and rescue missions last year, making it one of the most active counties for search and rescue missions in the nation. Reserve deputies and civilian volunteers are supervised by full-time sheriff’s deputies. http://lasdreserve.org

Man Arrested After Gun Threats in Movie Theatre From Bail Bondsman In Norwalk

A movie patron approached theatre security Sunday and said he was fearful of a moviegoer inside a showing of “The Dark Knight,” because he was shouting about a gun and Colorado. While Norwalk Sheriff’s Station deputies were called, an AMC Norwalk 20 Theatre security officer went inside the movie theatre and saw that the 52-year suspect had a backpack and was on his knees in the second row of seats. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and detained the suspect. Several witnesses confirmed that the suspect had created a disturbance in the theatre at 5:15PM, at first by shouting that the movie had not yet started. Suspect Clark Tabor then allegedly held his cell phone in the air and yelled “Does anyone have a gun?” and “I should go off like in Colorado.” The witnesses said that they were afraid the suspect was going to remove a gun from his backpack and shoot them. No weapons were found during the search of the suspect, the movie theatre, and surrounding area. There were no guns found during a search of the suspect’s residence. Suspect Tabor was arrested for Making Criminal Threats, a felony (422(a) of the California Penal Code). He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail of the Los Angeles County jail system on $50,000.00 bail plus unrelated warrants. His next scheduled court date is Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Bellflower Court. “A witness saw and heard strange activity and reported it immediately, said Captain Pat Maxwell, Norwalk Sheriff’s Station. “This is exactly the kind of help law enforcement needs to help protect the public. 'If You See Something, Say Something.’ The greatest deterrent to crime is often a phone call to law enforcement by a person who sees something that just doesn't look right.”
