Suspect Arrested in Attack on Blind Man in Anaheim, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Anaheim | Los Angeles

Anaheim - A 23-year-old man, who allegedly attacked a blind man in an Anaheim convenience store, was behind bars today, facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated.

Police say a knock on the restroom door provoked the attack at an am/pm near Ball Road and Bookhurst Street about 8:10 a.m. Friday.

"What happened is the guy tried to use the restroom, so he banged on the door," Anaheim police Lt. K. Switzer said. "That must have irritated the guy who was inside, because he came out and there was a verbal argument between the two."

About that time, Taufa Vaioleti, cousin to the man who was in the restroom, threw a beer at the 44-year-old victim, whose name was withheld. The victim, who was treated at the scene and released, reportedly has one glass eye and is blind in the other.

"He threw a whole 12-ounce can at him, which really did some damage to this blind man," Switzer said.

Vaioleti and his cousin fled but but were caught driving around about two hours later near a home in the 1200 block of Alamo Street, Switzer said. Vaioleti was arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and driving while under the influence.

The other man's name was unavailable.

At this time All American Bail Bonds has no additional information on the suspects bail. We will update the story with current bail information as we receive it.

No Bail Hold for Alleged Coyote Arrested in Kidnapping Case , from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale | Los Angeles

Santa Ana - An alleged "coyote" suspected of holding a 4-year- old girl for ransom was locked up in Orange County today, and immigration officials may keep the girl and her mother in the country to help with his prosecution.

Emanuel De La Costa-Valdiva, 32, of Mexico, was arrested Thanksgiving Day on suspicion of human trafficking, kidnapping and extortion, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Authorities suspect the girl's mother was trying to have her daughter smuggled into the country by a "coyote," as immigrant smugglers are known.

"Parents who contract with human smugglers should remember they are delivering their children into the hands of criminals, criminals who are all too willing to put a child's welfare at stake for their own personal gain," Joseph Macias of ICE said.

A chance encounter led to the arrest, the Orange County Register reported.

A CHP officer was parked at the Laguna Hills mall around 10 a.m. Thursday when a man and a woman approached him, sheriff's Lt. Mike Jansen said.

The couple explained they had been involved in human smuggling, and that the smuggler had their daughter. The couple had been paying off the smuggler for several weeks, Jansen said, but with the money continuing to roll in the accused smuggler held onto the girl and kept asking for more money.

ICE's Vincent Picard told the newspaper agents believe the kidnapping and hostage situation was a bait-and-switch on the girl's mother who was trying to cross into the United States illegally from Mexico with her daughter.

The woman apparently paid De La Costa-Valdiva to smuggle her daughter into the United States, while the mother crossed the border illegally, taking a different route, Picard said.

But instead of being reunited with her mother in California, De La Costa- Valdiva became a kidnapper, refusing to return the little girl, Picard said.

Joseph Macias, the assistant special agent in charge of the ICE investigations in Orange, said the situation was all too common. "Parents who contract with human smugglers should remember they are delivering their children into the hands of criminals, criminals who are often all too willing to put a child's welfare at stake for their own personal gain," Macias said.

Agents and deputies worked with the girl's mother to arrange another payoff with the accused smuggler, Jansen said. For hours, they waited and watched. Around 10 p.m. De La Costa-Valdiva showed up with the girl, and deputies moved in and arrested De La Costa-Valdiva.

Valdiva is being held without bail in Orange County Jail and expected in court Tuesday in Dept. CJ1 at the Central Jail, 550 N. Flower St., according to Orange County Jail records.

As Valdiva is being held on Federal chages as well as other charges there is no bail for him. If the bail information changes we will update the story.

Bail Amount Set $100,501 for Phony Photographer who Turns Self In, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale | Los Angeles

Los Angeles - A South Los Angeles man accused of posing as a magazine photographer to grope young women turned himself in today, police said.

Keith Nichols, 22, allegedly told several young women he was a photographer for Vibe Magazine, and they agreed to let him "measure" their most intimate body parts for "custom-fitted underwear," Capt. Blake Chow of the Los Angeles Police Department said earlier.

Nichols told the women that if their measurements were right, they could get a modeling job for Vibe Magazine, Chow said.

The women realized they had "been duped when Nichols never returned phone calls," he said.

Nichols, who has worked as a security guard and lived in Compton, turned himself in to police around 1 this afternoon, and bail was set at $1000,501, according to jail records.

"The `measuring' sessions often occurred spontaneously in secluded, public places, where Nichols used a measuring tape as a prop," Chow said. "While none of the woman recalled him taking photographs, Nichols did touch the women's bare breasts and groins with his hands.

"These crimes amount only to a misdemeanor at this point, but the potential for a more serious crime is there," Chow said earlier. "We don't know how many women Nichols has approached, how many have submitted, or if he has committed more serious crimes."

"The lure of Hollywood and a big career in modeling blinded these girls from reality," Chow said. "That's what con artists rely on."

Nichols currently has the existing open charge as well as a warrant, we will provide more information on his bail or case information as it comes in.

Bail Amount Set $100,000...Ex-LAPD Officer Arrested in Saddleback Church Burglary, from Los Angeles | Orange County Bail Bondsman

Lake Forest - A former Los Angeles police officer was behind bars on Wednesday, facing allegations of burglarizing Saddleback Church several times since August 2008, when he worked there as a security guard, an Orange County sheriff's spokesman said.

Charles Mottern, 45, of Irvine, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, evading arrest, resisting arrest and may also face charges of impersonating a police officer, sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said. Bail was set at $100,000, Amormino said.

Mottern was working at the church in August 2008 when church officials began noticing things missing, Amormino said. Then about 5 a.m. Thursday, security guards interrupted a burglary but were unable to catch the thief, he added.

A black BMW parked across the street at the strip mall, however, was seen speeding away, and sheriff's detectives traced it to Mottern, Amormino said.

While en route to Mottern's home Tuesday, deputies spotted him in the BWM and tried to make a traffic stop, Amormino said. Eventually, he pulled over, but got out of the car and ran, he said.

Deputies used a Taser in arresting him, Amormino said. Mottern's booking photo also showed him with a bruised and cut face.

Stolen items recovered from Mottern's home included such things as camera equipment, computers, phones and walkie-talkies, Amormino said.

"Any kind of electronic equipment that wasn't nailed down was taken," he said.

Mottern also had a phony police identification on him, Amormino said.

Mottern stopped working at Saddleback in December 2008, Amormino said, adding he does not know why. Mottern's employment with the LAPD ended in 1996.

Mottern is still in custody at the Orange County Mens Facility in Santa Ana, The Bail Bond required for hom is $100,000 and All American Bail Bonds is following the case. We will provide more information as it relates to bail and the Bail Bonding Services we perform.

Kerry's daughter not to face drunk-driving charge, The B.S. just keeps getting DEEPER. From Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

From (AFP)

LOS ANGELES — The daughter of former US presidential candidate John Kerry will not be charged after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Los Angeles prosecutors have said.

Alexandra Kerry, 36, a film producer and director, was detained early Thursday after being pulled over in Hollywood.

"We've declined to file charges in that matter due to insufficiency of the evidence," Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office confirmed on Monday.

US Senator John Kerry issued a statement criticizing those who rushed to the conclusion that his daughter had been inebriated.

"Despite some speculation, my daughter was pulled over for an expired registration, not for erratic driving," he said.

"A breathalyzer test at the police station revealed she was under the legal limit. She was released a short time later, not at 5:30 am or after being held overnight, as some reported," said the Massachusetts senator, who as Democratic Party candidate lost the 2004 presidential election to George W. Bush.

The senator added: "While she regrets driving with an expired registration, and takes full responsibility for it, that mistake should never have been compounded by erroneous reports suggesting she was driving drunk."

Alexandra Kerry was arrested after she allegedly committed a traffic violation. Officers then conducted a field sobriety test and placed her under arrest. A blood alcohol test produced a reading of 0.06, under California's legal limit of 0.08, according to news reports.

She wrote and directed a short film in 2004 and had a bit part role in David Mamet's 2004 thriller "Spartan."

Under California law, individuals can still be prosecuted for DUI -- even if the level is less than 0.08 -- if a vehicle was judged to have been operated unsafely due to alcohol.

As a bail bondsman in Los Angeles I see it all, I will tell you right now some people are above the law.

.06, .08, who cares; charges should be filed for if any one else was arrested under the same circumstances I will guarantee you that charges would be filed. Once again it's not what you know....It's Who You know.

Good Lookin' out Senator ; )

Bail Bond Granted...Polanski Wins Bail in Switzerland, Stays in Jail, from Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

GENEVA (AP)-A Swiss court granted Roman Polanski bail on Wednesday, accepting $4.5 million to allow him to remain under house arrest at his chalet. The director will stay in prison for up to 10 days while the Swiss government decides whether to appeal.

The Swiss Criminal Court reversed its previous rejection of bail, saying it was confident the large cash guarantee would compel Polanski to remain at his chalet in the Swiss resort of Gstaad under house arrest and monitored by an electronic bracelet.

The court said it still viewed him as a high flight risk. The verdict does not affect the Swiss Justice Ministry's ongoing assessment of whether Polanski should be extradited to the United States for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl. Polanski fled sentencing in Los Angeles a year later.

"The 76-year-old appellant is married and the father of two minors," the court said as it considered Polanski's offer of a cash bail secured by his apartment in Paris. "It can be assumed that as a responsible father he will, especially in view of his advanced age, attach greater importance to the financial security of his family than a younger person."

The court said Polanski would be subjected to "constant electronic surveillance" at his chalet and an alarm would be activated if he leaves the premises or takes off the bracelet.

But Polanski wasn't immediately released by the Swiss Justice Ministry, which ordered him arrested Sept. 26 as he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival.

"We will decide quickly on whether to order his release or file an appeal with the Federal Tribunal," ministry spokesman Folco Galli said. Authorities had 10 days to refer the matter to the tribunal, Switzerland's highest court, but Galli said they would make their decision before that.

The Federal Tribunal said it had yet to receive an appeal.

Polanski's lawyers Lorenz Erni in Zurich and Herve Temime in Paris declined to comment. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office also had no reaction, spokeswoman Shiara Davila-Morales said.

The decision came as a surprise after a series of setbacks for the director of "Rosemary's Baby," ''Chinatown," and "The Pianist."

Swiss legal experts had said earlier that Polanski's chances of bail were slim, and even U.S. authorities expressed confidence that a Swiss court wouldn't grant his release.

The court last month rejected Polanski's first bail offer of his Gstaad chalet as collateral, which the director claimed made up more than half of his personal wealth and would definitely guard against his flight because he has two children he must support through school.

This time, the court looked favorably on Polanski's offer of cash and the threat of sacrificing his family's home if he fled justice.

"Cash is king," said Peter Cosandey, a former Zurich prosecutor. Still, he said he could "hardly remember a case where bail is granted to someone who isn't even a full-time Swiss resident."
A decision on extraditing Polanski to Los Angeles is still pending, and would also be subject to appeals.

Polanski was accused of raping the 13-year-old girl after plying her with champagne and a Quaalude pill during a modeling shoot in 1977. He was initially indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of
drugs, child molesting and sodomy.

Polanski pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful sexual intercourse. In exchange, the judge agreed to drop the remaining charges and sentence him to prison for a 90-day psychiatric evaluation. The evaluator release Polanski after 42 days, but the judge said he was going to send him back to serve out the 90 days.
Polanski then fled the country on Feb. 1, 1978, the day he was to be sentenced and has lived in France since.
Polanski claims the judge and prosecutors acted improperly. A California appeals court will listen to oral arguments from his attorneys next month. They will be urging the court to order a lower court to decide whether to dismiss charges against the fugitive director, whether he is present or not.

As a bail bonding company with bail bonding offices throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernadino county we find this story interesting for the simple reason that we were unaware that Switzerland even had the bail process. We will provide more information on this bail story as details come in.

Out on Bail, Arrested UCLA basketball player Dragovic posts bail, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Hollywood | Los Angeles

UCLA basketball player Nikola Dragovic, arrested on a felony assault charge stemming from a fight at a concert last month, was out on $30,000 bail Saturday, police said.

The 6 foot-9 inch, 21-year-old forward born in Serbia-Montenegro surrendered to campus police, then Los Angeles police detectives, about 1 p.m. Friday after being informed by prosecutors that he was being charged, according to law enforcement officials.

The booking and release process began about 11:00 a.m. Friday. Dragovic posted bail of $30,000 and was released later that night, said Los Angeles
police Sgt. Enrique Mendoza of the Hollywood Station.

It was unclear what led to the charge, other than it happened at a concert in Hollywood last month. An arrest warrant was issued Thursday, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Dragovic was absent from his team's 75-64 win Friday over Cal State Bakersfield. His status for upcoming games will be determined as more information becomes available, said Marc Dellins, a spokesman for UCLA sports.

The Bruins play Pepperdine at Pauley Pavilion on Monday.

"This is an unfortunate situation for Nikola,'' coach Ben Howland said. "Our staff and players will do what we can to help him during this time. He made us aware of the incident when it occurred, but until this morning, we did not know charges would be filed.''

Dragovic had 14 rebounds in a 68-65 double-overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton Monday.

Dragovic was arrested Nov. 7, 2008 on suspicion of battery after a fight with a former live-in girlfriend in the Palms area, but no charges were filed after prosecutors from the City Attorney's Office questioned each separately, the Los Angeles Times reported in December.

Iran releases ex-official on Bail Bond in mass trial, from Bail Bondsman in Los Angeles

Former vice president Mohammad Ali Abtahi, second right, in prison uniform among other defendants, sits at the court room in Tehran, Iran, in August. Abtahi, a top reformer has been sentenced to six years in jail after he stood trial on charges of fomenting unrest to topple the Iranian regime, his lawyer said Sunday.

TEHRAN, Iran - A former vice president has been released on bail in the mass trial of opposition figures accused of fomenting the Iran's post-election unrest, the official IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.

Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said that Mohammad Ali Abtahi was released on a $700,000 bail after the verdict was delivered. The report did not say what his sentence was.

Earlier on Sunday the defendant's lawyer, Saleh Nikbakht said a court sentenced Abtahi to six years in jail for fomenting the unrest after the disputed June presidential election,Abtahi, who served as a vice president during former President Mohammad Khatami's two terms from 1997-2005, is the most senior former official among the more than 100 people on trial since August.

Khatami is now one of the leading figures in the pro-reform movement in Iran.

Last week, state television reported that five defendants in the mass trial have been sentenced to death and 81 got prison terms ranging from six months up to 15 years.

Abtahi made televised confessions after his arrest in which he admitted provoking people to riot. But his family and other opposition figures said the statements were coerced and similar claims have been made about other defendants' confessions during the trial.

Rights groups and opposition figures in Iran have criticized the court proceedings as a "show trial."

In the weeks following the June 12 election, the opposition led massive street protests that drew hundreds of thousands and supporters clashed with security forces. They claimed fraud after authorities declared President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner of a second term, and the protests were the most serious internal unrest in Iran in the 30 years since the Islamic Revolution.

Iran's clergy-led establishment accused the protesters of trying to stage a "velvet revolution." A harsh crackdown ended the demonstrations and a security sweep went far beyond rounding up just protesters on the streets, snatching up rights activists and journalists, as well as pro-reform politicians.

The government has stopped short of indicting the most visible opposition leaders, presidential candidates Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi, but there have been signs in recent weeks that could change. The opposition says Mousavi is the rightful winner of the election.

As we are Bail Bondsman running a Bail Bonds service in Los Angeles and Licensed to conduct Bail business throughout California, we were suprised to see that that the country of Iran had a type of bail for defendants awaiting trial or sentencing. We will provide more information on this story as it does relate to bail or bail bonds.

Five Arrests in Long Beach Poly Attacks, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach

Long Beach - Police arrested five Long Beach Poly High School freshmen for sexual battery after two girls were allegedly attacked on campus, it was reported today.

The arrests stem from an incident that occurred near the student store on Tuesday toward the end of the lunch break, police and school officials told the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

The students were "involved in a brief situation where at least one of the boys apparently groped one or more of the girls," Chris Eftychiou, spokesman for the Long Beach Unified School District told the newspaper, adding that there were no signs of force and no medical attention was required, he said.

After receiving a complaint from one of the girls, the district called the police, he told the newspaper.

A spokesman for the Long Beach Police Department could not be reached for comment today.

The suspects were arrested separately on school grounds throughout last week as the investigation progressed, Lt. Ty Hatfield of the Long Beach Police Department's Juvenile Division told the newspaper.

The boys' names were withheld because they are minors. Police and Eftychiou said that at least some of the boys are on the freshman football team, the Press-Telegram reported.

The boys were released to their parents following their arrests, Eftychiou told the newspaper. Three of the boys have been suspended from school for five days, the other two were sent to alternative schools in the district, he added.

"These students are facing some significant disciplinary measures for it," he told the newspaper. "We don't turn a blind eye to that sort of thing."

The attack may not have been an isolated incident and investigators are looking for any other victims who may not have come forward. Police asked anyone with information about this incident, or a similar incident, to call the LBPD's Juvenile Division at (562) 570-1425.

1982 Koreatown Murder suspect Arrested, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale | Los Angeles

Los Angeles - Los Angeles cold-case detectives have arrested a man charged with murdering a 65-year-old woman nearly three decades ago.

Authorities say Victor Alvarez was arrested Thursday. He remained jailed Friday without bail.
Alvarez, 53, was charged with murder on Nov. 2.
Prosecutors contend he sexually assaulted and killed Hazel Hughes during a burglary at her Koreatown apartment in 1982. A nephew discovered her body.
Prosecutors haven't decided whether to seek the death penalty. Alvarez also is under investigation for the death of 67-year-old Cordella Ferguson. Her body was found in the same apartment complex on the same day.

At this time Alvarez has a no bail hold and will be appearing in court sometime this coming week. Los Angeles County Jail information at this time is incomplete, as of early 11-21-09 early morning Alvarez still shows to be in inmate reception center to be permanetly housed later. More bail information will be provided as we get it.

Robbery Suspect Who Held Child Arrested, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale | Norwalk

Norwalk Ca - Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies say tips from the public helped lead to the arrest of a suspect who allegedly robbed a man outside a convenience store while holding a 3-year-old boy in his arms.

Sheriff's officials say Jeremy Gallegos was arrested Thursday and booked on suspicion of robbery and child endangerment. He's being held on $100,000 bail.

Deputies say the man was holding the boy when he ordered a man outside a convenience store last month to hand over his wallet and two cans of beer he'd just purchased.

The suspect allegedly lifted his shirt to reveal a handgun in his waistband.

Chris Brown Gets Good Marks in Court, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale

Los Angeles - R&B singer Chris Brown, who previously admitted assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna after a pre-Grammy Awards party, was praised today by a judge for receiving an "extremely favorable progress report."

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Schnegg ordered the 20-year- old entertainer to return to the downtown courthouse on Feb. 18 for another progress report hearing.

"It's an extremely favorable progress report," the judge said after reviewing the Probation Department document detailing Brown's progress since his Aug. 25 sentencing.

Schnegg noted that Brown will have to come back to court every three months until he finishes a yearlong domestic counseling program, but that he won't have to personally report to court once that is done.

The singer has already completed more than 100 hours toward his required 180 days of community labor, and has done seven sessions in the domestic violence counseling program, defense attorney Mark Geragos told the judge.

The judge said the police chief in Richmond, Va. -- the state where Brown lives -- is "keeping very detailed records" about the singer's community labor.

Brown was sentenced just under three months ago to five years probation and the yearlong domestic violence program and 180 days of community labor, which could include highway cleanup, litter removal or other similar work.

A protective order also requires Brown to stay at least 100 yards away from Rihanna, unless they are both attending an entertainment industry function, where the restriction would be lowered to 10 yards.

Brown pleaded guilty June 22 to assault, admitting he attacked Rihanna during an argument that began around 12:30 a.m. Feb. 8 while the singers were in a rented Lamborghini on North June Street near First Street.

A second felony count -- criminal threats -- was dismissed as a result of Brown's guilty plea.

Since then, Brown issued a videotaped apology posted on his Web site in which he told his fans his conduct had been "inexcusable."

"I have told Rihanna countless times -- and I'm telling you today -- that I am truly, truly sorry ... that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better," he said in the two-minute apology.

He said he wished that "I had a chance to live those moments again. But, unfortunately, I can't. I cannot go into what happened and, most importantly, I'm not going to sit here and make any excuses. I take great pride in me being able to exercise self-control, and what I did was inexcusable. I am very sad and very ashamed at what I've done."

Bounty Hunter Shoots DUI Suspect, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale

An investigation was under way today into the wounding of a DUI suspect who was shot and wounded by a bounty hunter during a scuffle in Sun Valley, police said.

Three armed bounty hunters went to the 8200 block of Marmay Place, near Burton Street, about 9:25 p.m. Monday to catch a man who had "skipped bail related to a misdemeanor DUI arrest," said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

When the suspect tried to get away, a scuffle broke out and one of the bounty hunters shot the man, she said.

The suspect apparently grabbed one of the bounty hunter's guns during the scuffle, Rayner told the Los Angeles Times.

"The bounty hunter had his weapon taken away, and his partner fired a least one shot at the suspect," Rayner told the newspaper.

The man was shot in the leg, Rayner said. The suspect was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police were investigating whether the bounty hunters were authorized to carry weapons.

Mexico Arrests 1 of FBI's Most-Wanted Fugitives , from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale

One of the FBI's most-sought fugitives, wanted for the 2002 killings of his girlfriend and her two young sons in Idaho, was captured in Mexico.

Federal police detained Jorge Alberto Lopez Orozco on a highway in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero, Mexico's Attorney General's Office said Thursday. He was transported to the neighboring state of Michoacan and held on a U.S. extradition request.

Lopez Orozco, 33, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Rebecca Ramirez and her sons, aged 2 and 4, in Elmore County, Idaho. He was placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list in March 2005.

There was no immediate information on whether U.S. prosecutors had agreed not to seek the death penalty against Lopez Orozco; Mexico refuses to extradite suspects who might face execution.

According to FBI reports, Lopez Orozco called Ramirez on July 30, 2002, and later picked her up along with her two sons at her father's house in Nyssa, Ore. Twelve days later, fishermen found the abandoned, burned-out shell of the car that Lopez Orozco had been driving near the Snake River in a remote area of Elmore County.

The charred remains of Ramirez and the two boys, Ricardo and Miguel, were inside. Investigators later determined they had been shot.

Law enforcement officials said Lopez Orozco and Ramirez had an on-again, off-again affair that was well known in the community. At the time of her death, Ramirez had five surviving children aged 7 to 17, the Idaho Statesman reported.

After the killings, Lopez Orozco fled to San Jose, Calif., with the help of family members, the FBI says.

Lopez Orozco's sister-in-law Maria Garcia was arrested in 2006 on charges of accessory to murder, while his brother remains at large and is being sought by the FBI.

Lopez Orozco's arrest came about two months after Mexican authorities captured another of the FBI's Most Wanted: reputed gang member Emigdio Preciado Jr., 39, who is suspected of severely wounding a Los Angeles sheriff's deputy with automatic weapons fire.

Pot Farm Found Behind Police Station, from Bail Bondsman in Lakewood | Long Beach | Van Nuys | Palmdale

Canoga Park - Los Angeles police today busted a sophisticated marijuana farm inside an industrial building 25 feet from the back door of the Topanga Community Police Station.

About a week ago, officers smelled marijuana coming from the building at 8411 Canoga Ave., just a few feet from the station at 21501 Schoenborn St., said Officer Karen Rayner of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

They notified the narcotics unit which started an investigation.

"They noticed that traffic in and out of the building was very minimal. The ventilation had also been upgraded. The utility bills were disproportionately higher. The rooms in the building were filled with hydroponics equipment," Rayner said.

Rayner said the farmers had also "gone to great lengths to filter the air coming out of every hole that might leak to the outside." She said that all the places where the smell might have come had been plugged with liquid caulking stuff.

"But it was not enough," Rayner said. "Their luck ran out."

Three suspects were still being booked so their names could not be released, Rayner said. The amount of marijuana in the building had not yet been tabulated.

A warrant was served in the building about 3 p.m. Detectives estimated the operation had been going on for about eight months, Rayner said.

Two Shot Dead in Santa Fe Springs Lot

Santa Fe Springs - A man and a woman, each shot with a single bullet to the head, died in a Santa Fe Springs parking lot on Sunday, police said.

The shooting, at 11517 Los Nietos Road, occurred about 2 a.m., Whittier police Lt. Bill Webster said.

Officers were on a traffic stop when they heard gunshots, and a search of the area, filled primarily with low-rise industrial and office buildings, turned up two fatally wounded people in a nearby parking lot, Webster said.

The two victims had each been shot once in the head, according to a press release by the Whittier Police Department, and died at the scene. They appeared to be in their 30s, according to the release, but have not yet been identified, according to Whittier police spokesman Jason Zuhlke.

No motive for the shooting had been established.

Detectives, said to be "aggressively investigating" the case, asked anyone with information to call the Whittier Police Department at (562) 945- 8250.

Long Beach - A man suspected of shooting another man in Long Beach was shot by police, authorities said today.

Long Beach police officers responded to a shooting call at Caspian Avenue and 19th Street about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

The officers were flagged down by residents who said the gunman fled eastbound on 19th Street, according to a Long Beach Police Department statement. While searching the area officers found the man, who pulled out a gun, prompting at least one officer to fire, the statement said. The man was struck in the torso and transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Pratt said. Police recovered a handgun at the scene, the statement said.

Officers also found a man in the 1600 block of West 19th Street who had been shot in the chest. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, she said. An investigation was underway to determine if the man police shot was responsible for shooting the other man.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office was also conducting an independent investigation, which is standard procedure for all officer- involved shootings resulting in hits.

Anyone with information regarding this case was encouraged to call Long Beach Police homicide detectives David Rios and Daniel Mendoza at (562) 570- 7244.

Glen Beck Speaks to Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio

By Informed Bail Agent
All American Bail Bonds http://www.allamericanbailbonds.net/

As a dedicated viewer of Fox News and a fan of The Glen Beck show I was quite shocked to witness Glen Becks interview with, what I would now describe as a Racist Sheriff Joe Arpaio. I won’t get into the remarks of Sheriff Joe Arapio, I am sure in the next few days you will be able to Google information on his remarks or even go to YouTube for the video.

As a bail bondsman, with offices in Lakewood, Santa Ana, North Hollywood, and Palmdale, I do believe we need increased border security but I also agree that racial profiling cannot be allowed. In our bail industry we deal with all types of people from all nationalities, we deal with people here legally as well as illegally. As a bail bondsman in Southern California we see a broad array of crimes allegedly committed by a broad array of people and it is very frustrating when we see individuals here illegally committing crimes with no clear concern for our system of laws. I as an individual do believe we as a country do need to increase our border security but at the same time there are human rights issues we cannot ignore. Our elected officials in law enforcement as well as government must understand that we as a people we will not allow them to destroy our moral beliefs in treating all people fairly in the name of immigration reform.

In conclusion I would like to restate that I do believe we need to tighten the borders and I do not believe in amnesty for all. If people wish to come to this great country of ours, first and foremost, they MUST understand that we as a country will not tolerate the breaking of our laws; if we as a people must obey the laws of this country they too must. I see a lot of people here who are here illegally, who are productive law abiding parts of our society, and I do hope that these individuals who play by the rules do one day get an opportunity and the privilege to be called a U.S. Citizen.

Ethics in Bail, A Better Bail Business

I am a bail bondsman with All American Bail Bonds. We are a bail bonding agency which employs over 20 people from office workers to agents. We currently have 3 offices throughout the Greater L.A. Metropolitan area. I am often asked “what is the most frustrating thing about your job”? And I say that it’s getting the bail, making sure the people make it to their court appearances and finding them when they don’t. My common answer is there is no one thing.
Lately because of the quick growth of our company I have been doing a lot of thinking. At this point I believe the most frustration “thing” in the bail bond business is ethics or lack of! Bail is a cash business, it can be a business of quick cash or quick failure. It is a business of constant stress which if handled well can lead to great reward. I guess one might think that this job is “good” some might say easy, the kind of job that you can learn by reading a book or studying others. In actuality, this job is far from easy and because at times it appears so easy you tend to see a lot of charlatans.
When people perceive that money can easily be made you will begin to see people out and about trying to make an easy buck by feeding on the fears and confusion of families and friends who have loved ones in jail. I think I am writing this not to appeal to our clients or potential clients but to appeal to the bondsmen out there to take back the business from the crooks who solicit illegally, who steal, who lie and those who are not even properly licensed. Yes, there are some bail companies out there as close as Van Nuys who aren’t even properly licensed, there are jailers in some of the local jails who are allegedly receiving kickbacks from local companies for sending bail their way or giving special privileges. For those who think I am writing this because of pettiness or I am just a complainer, they are wrong. Bail agents need to take back their business we need to band together to be more professional, more honest, and just better people.
There are too many snakes and rats in the farm. We need to put out the traps and eliminate the illegal and improper activities of our competitors. I look forward to the day when bail bondsmen are not thought of as crooks smoking cigars and doing deals in dark back allies. I wish to be looked at as a professional insurance agent, a master in his field. We need to have a code of unwritten rules on how to treat our clients. The people who are in need of our services are the ones that keep us in business. Let’s not lose our humanity, let’s not lose ourselves chasing the premium, the quick buck. I pray that those who read this will relate and band together to do right where others have done wrong. The agents out there who have been really writing bail know what I am talking about. You professional companies out there, lets unite. There are several good companies out there, the companies that have been here for years and will be here for many more. There are also other companies who have no idea what they’re doing. The individuals who are just looking to be somebody and make a quick buck; If we band together these rats, snakes and charlatans will be no more. We can have a more professional industry if we try.
If you would like to speak further on how we can band together please contact us at 866-743-8688 or visit our web site at www.allamericanbailbonds.net.
Thank You

All American Bail Bonds Fugitive Recovery

The date is July 25th and you can call me agent 1, I am a fugitive recovery agent with All American Bail Bonds. Today we are going to revoke bail on one of our clients who has failed to check in and we have recently received credible information that he is currently using Meth and is a flight risk.

Our client from this point out will be called Brent. Brent lives in Hollywood with his young wife who is equally full of you know what. We originally bailed out Brent on a misdemeanor warrant out of riverside. Brent has a job at a local nightclub in West Hollywood and has failed to check in for over three weeks. We have tried to contact Brent on multiple occasions and we had recently found out that Brent has failed to appear on several other bonds posted previously, and after speaking with a mutual friend who notified us that he has been using meth for weeks, the head office has decided that bail revocation is necessary.

Well its Saturday July 25th and we are meeting at our North Hollywood office address 11526 Burbank Blvd North Hollywood Ca #20; we decided to do a early morning pick up so as to surprise Brent and hopefully get him while he was still asleep. There are three of us today and were driving one of our pick up vehicles, a late model mini van which my guys lovingly call the soccer mom van. We get to Brents house around 6:30 in the morning, I send agent 2 out around back of the apartment complex to the rear window while agent 3 and I go to the front I have agent 3 knock on the door claiming to be a neighbor with an emergency, stating he needs to use the phone. The door opens at that time agent 3 identifies himself and walks through the door tazer in hand, while I explain to the wife, who is the indemnitor, why we are there. While I am speaking with the wife do agent 2 squaks in on the radio and says he tazed the client while he was coming through the ally and now has him in custody. It appears that the defendant didn’t come in last night he had stayed out all night drinking and doing drugs. When brent saw our fugitive recovery agent in the ally he tried to turn and run. Agent 2 immediately identified himself gave pursuit and tazed the client which brought him to the ground. A couple seconds later he was handcuffs, he didn’t know what hit him. While this was all going on Agent 3 was in the bedroom getting ready to arrest another guy was naked in bed, that’s right naked in bed. It appears that the wife was having her own fun without her husband present, we later find out that she had got drunk and a friend had escorted her home because she couldn’t drive and of course one thing led to another. At this point now I am trying to keep a straight face but I can’t help but to think that maybe we’ve done more than just revoke a bail we may have just prevented a serious domestic disturbance. Well back to Brent, Agent 2 has taken him into custody and walked him to the vehicle with agent 3 while I explained to the wife why we were doing what we were doing. She tells me that Brent hasn’t been avoiding us it’s just he’s always drunk and doped up so he forgets to call. No excuses, we do our job, we drive Brent to Riverside county jail where he is promptly booked in and we all get some lunch and tell some good stories.

How Bail Works F.A.Q. by 0downbail.com

Q. What is a Bail Bond? A. Most people are familiar with bail bonds. Someone arrested on a criminal charge may be held until trial, unless they furnish the required bail. The posting of a bail bond acquired by or on behalf of the incarcerated person is one means of meeting the required bail. When a bond is issued, the bonding company guarantees that the defendant will appear in court at a given time and place. The Government entity (state or federal) in whose court the defendant must appear, is protected by the bond. If the defendant fails to appear, the bond amount becomes payable and is forfeited as a penalty by the surety insurer issuing the bond. Bail bonds usually require collateral (cash, a deed, or other property) to protect the surety.
Bail bonds are issued by licensed "Bail Agents" who specialize in their underwriting and issuance. Bail agents act as the appointed representatives of licensed surety insurance companies.

Q. What is the purpose of bail?
A. The purpose of bail is to assure the attendance of the defendant, when his or her appearance is required in court, whether before or after conviction.

Q. How much does a bail agent charge?
A. The cost to the consumer will be about 10% of the total amount of the bond, plus actual, necessary and reasonable expenses incurred in connection with the transaction. The court determines the amount of the bond.
Each surety company must file rates with the Department of Insurance. Bail agents representing a company must charge the same, filed rates. A "Rate Chart" is required to be posted in a visible location at every bail bond office.

Q. Is there any restrictions on how high my bail can be?
A. The Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires that bail not be excessive. This means that bail should not be used to raise money for the government or to punish a person for being suspected of committing a crime. The purpose of bail is to give an arrested person her freedom until she is convicted of a crime, and the amount of bail must be no more than is reasonably necessary to keep her from fleeing before a case is over.

Q. What can I do if I can't afford to pay the bail listed on the bail schedule?
A. If you can’t afford the amount of bail on the bail schedule, you can ask a judge to lower it. Depending on the state, your request must be made either in a special bail-setting hearing or when you appear in court for the first time, usually called your arraignment.

Q. How soon can I appear before a judge?A. A person taken to jail must be brought "without unnecessary delay before the nearest available…magistrate." In no event should more than 48 hours elapse (not counting weekends and holidays) between the time of booking and bringing you to court.

Q. How do I pay for bail?
A. There are two ways to pay your bail. You may either pay the full amount of the bail or buy a bail bond. A bail bond is like a check held in reserve: It represents your promise that you will appear in court when you are supposed to. You pay a bond seller to post a bond (a certain sum of money) with the court, and the court keeps the bond in case you don’t show up. You can usually buy a bail bond for about 10% premium you pay to a bond seller is nonrefundable. In addition, the bond seller may require "collateral." This means that you (or the person who pays for your bail bond) must give the bond seller a financial interest in some of your valuable property. The bond seller can cash-in this interest if you fail to appear in court.
As an alternative a bond agent may be your best option. To find a bail agent, look in the Yellow Pages.

Q. Is bail a matter of right?
A. Although the right to bail has constitutional recognition in the prohibition against excessive bail, bail is not always a matter of right. However, with certain exceptions a defendant charged with a criminal offense shall be released on bail. Persons charged with capital crimes when the facts are evident or the presumption of guilt great, are excepted from the right to release on bail. However, a defendant charged with a capital crime is entitled to a bail hearing in the trial court to determine whether the facts are evident or the presumption great. A capital crime is an offense that a statute makes it potentially punishable by death or life imprisonment, even if the prosecutor / government has agreed not to seek the death penalty. It is presumed that the risk of flight of the defendant is too great when he or she is facing death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Q. What is the consumer agreeing to in the bail bond contract?
A. The consumer is agreeing to:
• Pay the premium for the bond at the established rates.
• Provide required collateral.
• Pay actual, necessary and reasonable expenses incurred by the bail agent in connection with the transaction. These may include:
o Reimbursement for long distance phone calls.
o Excess travel expenses (described as outside of the bail agent’s normal scope of business, or into an area where the agent does not advertise).
o Posting fees (for payment to an agent in another area to physically deliver a bond. An agent should not charge a posting fee for the normal delivery of a bond in the agent’s advertising area).
o Bounty agent/skip tracer expenses (These are usually based upon the amount of the bond).
o Payment of the bond amount for the defendant’s failure to appear.
o Attorney fees and court costs.
• Keep the bail agent advised of address/employment changes of the defendant or other parties to the agreement.
• Aid the bail agent/skip tracers in locating the defendant (where someone other than the defendant has secured the bond).
The consumer should read all agreements thoroughly, asking questions until all items and obligations are understood.

Q. What does the bail agent do for the consumer?
A. Provides an avenue for the incarcerated person to be out of custody until his/her day in court, allowing the defendant to continue his/her day-to-day life until the criminal matter is resolved. The bail agent will provide the following:
• Receipts and copies of all signed documents.
• Information regarding the status of the bond and changes in assigned court dates.
• The status of any costs due, as imposed by the court.
• Assistance in locating the defendant should a forfeiture occur.
• Appearance before the court regarding the bail bond when such appearances are
necessary (sometimes requiring the hiring of legal counsel).
• The timely return of collateral upon exoneration of the bond.
Q. How long is a bail bond good for, and can the amount be reduced?
A.
• Length of the contract. The bail bond runs for the length of the case that is being bonded. However, the agreement may provide for the payment of premium at inception, and upon "renewal" on an annual basis. Once paid, premium for a bail bond is not refundable.
• Reduction of Responsibility. Although not usually the case, a court may reduce the amount of bail required. If a bail reduction occurs, the bail agreement should be amended to reflect the reduced exposure of the bail agent and surety insurer. A bail reduction does not result in a refund of premium paid, although it may result in a partial return of collateral. If a bail reduction occurs, it should result in a reduced renewal premium. Under any circumstances, where a bail reduction has occurred, the bail agent and insurer cannot recover more than the amount to which they are actually exposed, plus necessary related expenses.
Q. Who decides how much bail I have to pay?
A. Judges are responsible for setting bail. Because many people want to get out of jail immediately and, depending on when you are arrested, it can take up to five days to see a judge, most jails have standard bail schedules which specify bail amounts for common crimes. You can get out of jail quickly by paying the amount set forth in the bail schedule.

Q. Is it true that a defendant who proves his reliability can get out of jail on his word alone?
A. Sometimes. This is known as releasing someone "on his own recognizance," or "O.R." A defendant released O.R. must simply sign a promise to show up in court. He doesn't have to post bail. A defendant commonly requests release on his own recognizance at his first court appearance. If the judge denies the request, he then asks for low bail.
In general, defendants who are released O.R. have strong ties to a community, making them unlikely to flee. Factors that may convince a judge to grant an O.R. release include the following:
• The defendant has other family members (most likely parents, a spouse or children) living in the community.
• The defendant has resided in the community for many years.
• The defendant has a job.
• The defendant has little or no past criminal record, or any previous criminal problems were minor and occurred many years earlier.
• The defendant has been charged with previous crimes and has always appeared as required.
Q. Who licenses and regulates bail agents?
A. Bail agents are licensed and regulated by the California Department of Insurance. You can obtain the licensing status of a bail agent by contacting the CDI Consumer Hotline at 1-800-927-4357 or by visiting CDI’s Web site at www.insurance.ca.gov.

Q. What if I have a problem or dispute with a bail agent, such as a failure to return collateral?
A. Contact the California Department of Insurance using the information provided in the "Talk to Us" section.
